Across the world, the progress in information processing and information and communication technology has impacted societies at various levels. The amount of health and medical knowledge is increasing at such a phenomenal rate that it is almost impossible to keep up with it. Storing, organizing and retrieving this information in a timely fashion, using new information processing methodologies is a challenge.

Education and training in Telemedicine and Medical Informatics has gained precedence in recent times mainly due to this need to harness technology. Today, medical institutions and hospitals need healthcare professionals who are trained in medical informatics and telemedicine to systematically process the information and facilitate appropriate and responsible application of information and communication technology.
